What did we have on our wishlist this year?
Every year my partner (Larry) and his family celebrate Christmas Eve together and participate in a gift exchange.
One year, when they asked for our wishlists, we went blank. We realized that both Larry and I already live in abundance. So we asked to receive nothing but hugs and laughter.
Fast forward four years later, we are still asking the same thing that would truly make us happy:
That everyone gets to spend time with their loved ones and to not go hungry.
We realized that the holidays are often hard for others. So we sought out opportunities to spread the same joy that we get from seeing our friends and families be happy and healthy.
This year we had the awesome opportunity to get involved with a lot of charities. We ended up donating to local food banks, volunteering our time with local NPOs, teaching yoga classes to those who cannot afford it, attending a gala to support our local animal shelters, and even participated in an Adopt-a-Family drive for the holidays.
We even set our own personal goals of donating at least 25 hours a year. The gift of time and skill is invaluable.
There are so many ways to give back and the gift of seeing others thrive and learn has been most fulfilling for me. I was once in a position of living paycheck to paycheck while trying to finish school and was even homeless after I emancipated from foster care. I know what it is like to have nothing.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!
See you in 2020!
Love,
Alex AKA Schimiggy
